Dr. Mayisa Dennis has a powerful story. She grew up in foster care. Mayisa has been in and out of jails and prison due to gang related activities and substance abuse since she was a young adult. Ms. Dennis knows what it means to recover from what the world thought would destroy her. Mayisa has decided to give back to people what was so freely given to her, it is called recovery. Once Mayisa decided to get clean and sober, it gave her hope to live life, on lifes terms. Ms. Dennis has a Master’s Degree in Substance Abuse and Alcohol Counseling. She is also an Anger Management Counselor for both Adolescents and Adults. She has directed and organized programs for Abused Women and Children. Additionally, she has worked with Residential Recovery Centers and with 12- Step programs. Mayisa's passion is working with Adolescents that are dealing with Drugs, Alcohol, and Criminal Behavior. She has an understanding for what people are going through. She affirms, “I’m not just a teacher, but a student living in the world of recovery. I have learned to live life on life’s terms.” Whether supervising professional staff, building recovery coalitions or working directly with individuals, her dedication is to provide the best recovery experience for each person she comes in contact with. Dr. Mayisa Dennis, Doctor of Ministry in Biblical Counseling by ACADC Institute, Licensed Minister by Saints of Value, Bible College, is a Substance Abuse Counselor IV, certified by CADTP, which is recognized by California Department of Health Care Services(DHCS), accredited by the institute for Certified Counselor Excellence(ICE) and a part of the National Commission for Certifying Agencies(NCCA). She is endorsed by Onsite Strategies as a Gateway Interventionist. As well, she is certified by the Association of Batterers Intervention Program(ABIP)as a Domestic Violence Counselor and is a Parenting facilitator, certified by Anderson & Anderson.
